What you'll gain

Run a legal drone-mapping business that actually pays

“Buy a drone and start surveying” hides the two legal gates, the accuracy method and the economics that actually decide whether a drone-mapping business makes money. This course teaches the real thing. First, you sell deliverables — orthomosaics, terrain models, volumetrics, crop-health maps — not “flights.” Second, two separate gates stand in front of them: to fly commercially you need the full NCAA stack (a remote pilot licence, an operator certificate, aircraft registration and a security clearance with an End-User Certificate), and to sell a legal survey you need a SURCON-registered surveyor’s seal — which a drone operator usually is not, so you partner with one or sell “mapping and data,” never an unsigned legal survey. Third, survey-grade accuracy is a method, not a drone: a bare drone is metre-level, centimetre accuracy needs RTK/PPK plus ground control, and it is still capped at roughly one-to-three times your image resolution. Fourth, the sensors are not interchangeable — an ordinary camera cannot compute true NDVI (only multispectral can), and only LiDAR sees the bare ground under a canopy. Fifth, the money is brutal about two things: every drone, part and subscription is priced in dollars, so the naira re-prices your kit and your repairs; and the business survives on utilisation — several billable jobs a month — not on any per-hectare rate. Sixth, the biggest surprise is the regulatory capital wall — a company, permit fees and a months-long security clearance — dead cost before revenue. And seventh, the work comes in as a subcontractor to survey and construction firms who hold the client and the seal, and you wait 30 to 90 days to be paid, so the drone is the cheap part. Two founders travel with you: Chuka, mapping under a partner surveyor in Lagos, and Fatima, running precision-agriculture scouting and spraying. Where a figure could not be verified — a live fee, a per-hectare rate, a named scam — the course says so and keeps an allegation distinct from a conviction.
