You learn to deliver quality care — the assessment and the written, reviewed care plan, activities of daily living, the medication line between reminding and administering, falls and safe moving-and-handling, infection prevention, dementia awareness and a written emergency and escalation protocol — and that your quality is your people, so carers must be trained, supervised and treated well. You learn the business — the models (visiting, live-in, an employed agency or an introductory service, a small care home), the payers including the distinctive diaspora-funded family, and the honest money reality that home care is people-heavy and trust-based, with labour as the dominant cost, thin margins and no figure invented. It closes with the classic mistakes and the scams — unvetted carers, fake agencies taking deposits, elder financial abuse and diaspora-remittance care scams — with a red-flag grammar and the discipline that defeats them. Two Nigerians travel with you: Folake, a registered nurse founding her own agency, and Chidi, an entrepreneur who employs qualified nurses for clinical care.
