This course is patent literacy for inventors: a patent is a legal right, granted by a patent office, that lets an inventor stop others from making, using or selling their invention for a limited period, in exchange for publicly disclosing how it works — one of several intellectual-property rights alongside trademarks, copyright, industrial designs and trade secrets. It is clear from the first line: this is IP-literacy and business capacity-building, and it is NOT legal, patent-attorney or IP-agent advice, and NOT a guarantee that any invention is patentable, that a patent will be granted, or that a patent will make money. It rests on one fact that governs everything: a patent protects a specific new, inventive, useful invention — not a mere idea, and not automatically — so protection comes only from the right invention, correctly documented and secured through the proper process, before careless disclosure destroys the right. From that come the two bright lines. The first is that this is literacy, not legal advice: the course makes you an informed inventor who can understand the system, ask the right questions and avoid the traps — not a patent attorney — so you inform yourself and then work with a registered patent attorney or agent for the specialised legal steps of searching, drafting claims, filing and enforcement. The second is honesty and realism, protecting your disclosure and respecting others rights: you make no false promises of a guaranteed patent or riches, you know that a bare idea is not protected and most ideas are not patentable, you guard against the fatal mistake of publicly disclosing your invention before filing (which can destroy its novelty), and you neither copy others patents nor fall for the scams that prey on inventors. You learn what a patent is and the IP family; the requirements of novelty, inventive step and utility, and the danger of disclosure; the process, the professionals and the national, regional and international filing routes; and how commercialisation actually works — with no fee, timeline or grant-rate figure invented. It closes with the classic mistakes and the scams — invention-promotion fee mills, guaranteed-patent pitches, fake "worldwide patent" registrations and confidentiality traps — with a red-flag grammar and a filter.
