Make cleaning products the market actually pays for

Making dishwash, bleach and disinfectant is one of the most-pitched small-manufacturing ideas in Nigeria — and the pitch always sells a “secret formula” that does not exist. The same LABSA-based chemistry sits in more than 80% of Nigerian detergents; the formula is free, and thousands of bucket producers already have it. This course teaches the business that actually makes money at factory volume, and it turns on a few hard truths. First, the business is the bottle, the consistency, the contract and the naira — packaging on a small pack often costs more than the chemicals, and surviving a 40% currency slide is a procurement skill, not a recipe. Second, water is the most under-rated input: hard water kills your foam and cleaning power and the metals in it destroy your bleach on the shelf, so treating your water is boring capital that protects the two things a buyer judges. Third, there is a chemistry that can kill — mixing bleach with any acid or with ammonia releases toxic gas in seconds — so a plant that makes both must segregate them absolutely. Fourth, the law is not what most people think: a finished cleaning or germ-killing product needs a NAFDAC registration number to be sold, while the raw chemicals you buy to make it do not. Fifth, the winnable market is B2B institutional bulk — jerricans to hotels, hospitals, schools and laundries — not the retail shelf against OMO and Ariel, because the packaging cost collapses and consistency beats advertising. Sixth, the two things that kill a growing maker are over-buying automation and over-extending on credit: a signed local purchase order is a promise, not money, and you fund production and wait one to three months to be paid. And seventh, contract and white-label manufacturing — making other people’s brands, paid per batch — is often the sober, cash-light route. Two founders travel with you: Ifeoma, who starts lean in Aba selling bulk to local institutions, and Yakubu, who builds a funded, registered line doing contract manufacturing and tenders. Where a figure could not be verified — a current input price, a live fee, a named scam — the course says so and keeps an allegation distinct from a conviction.
